A professional stage piano built around the same Grand Feel III wooden-key action as Kawai's premium digital pianos, with Shigeru Kawai concert grand samples and virtual technician controls.
The Kawai MP11SE is widely regarded as the 'pianist's stage piano,' and for good reason. At the heart of this instrument is the Grand Feel action, featuring long wooden keys that provide a pivot point and weight distribution nearly indistinguishable from a high-end acoustic grand. This makes it a dream for classical and jazz players who find typical plastic-key actions fatiguing or unresponsive. The Shigeru Kawai SK-EX and SK-5 samples are breathtaking, offering a wide dynamic range and a rich, woody resonance that feels alive under the fingers.
The interface is refreshingly tactile, with dedicated knobs for real-time EQ and zone control, avoiding the menu-diving common in modern workstations. However, the MP11SE is a specialist. While the electric pianos are soulful and the MIDI controller capabilities are robust, the library of 'extra' sounds like strings and pads feels a bit thin compared to its peers. The biggest trade-off is the sheer mass; at over 70 lbs, it is a literal back-breaker for solo gigging musicians. It is better suited for a permanent studio setup or high-end touring rigs with a dedicated crew. If you prioritize authentic touch above all else, this is the gold standard, but don't expect the sonic versatility of a Nord or the portability of a light-weight slab.
