Overview
The JBL 308P MkII is a bi-amplified near-field studio monitor with an 8-inch woofer and a 1-inch Slip Stream high-frequency driver, delivering the same Image Control Waveguide technology as the 305P MkII in a larger, more full-range format. Powered by 112 watts of total Class D amplification, the 308P MkII extends the low-frequency response down to 37 Hz, providing substantial bass reproduction that allows producers to make confident low-end mixing decisions without relying on a subwoofer. The Image Control Waveguide maintains its wide, consistent dispersion pattern at this larger scale, providing excellent stereo imaging and an expansive sweet spot that accommodates natural head movement during mixing sessions. The frequency response is smooth and neutral across the entire range, with detailed mids, a refined high end, and bass that is tight and controlled rather than boomy or exaggerated. Boundary EQ and HF trim switches on the rear panel allow room-specific adjustments. The larger cabinet delivers a more open, spacious sound with greater dynamic headroom than the 5-inch model, making it suitable for medium-sized studios. Build quality is solid with a well-braced enclosure and professional-grade connectors. These monitors are ideal for intermediate to advanced producers and engineers working in rooms large enough to accommodate 8-inch monitors at an appropriate listening distance. The physical size and weight make them less suitable for compact desktop setups where space is at a premium.
