DW Design Series
Overview
The DW Design Series is a mid-range drum kit that brings many of the design philosophies and construction techniques of DW's high-end Collector's Series down to a more accessible price point. The shells are constructed from seven-ply North American maple with True Pitch chrome tension rods and die-cast claw hooks, delivering a warm, focused sound with excellent note clarity across the tonal range. The kit is available in various configurations, with a standard five-piece setup featuring a 22-inch bass drum, 10-inch and 12-inch rack toms, a 16-inch floor tom, and a 14x6.5-inch matching snare drum. The sound character is distinctly DW " controlled, musical, and refined " with toms that sing with a clear fundamental pitch and a bass drum that produces a solid, punchy attack with controlled sustain. DW's MAG throw-off on the snare provides smooth, reliable snare wire engagement, and the STM (Suspension Tom Mount) system allows the rack toms to resonate freely. The lacquer finishes are beautifully applied, giving the kit a professional appearance that would not look out of place on any stage. Build quality is excellent throughout, reflecting DW's reputation for precision drum manufacturing. This kit suits intermediate to advanced players who aspire to DW tone and quality. The Design Series does not include DW's proprietary True Sonic snare wires found on the Collector's Series, which limits the snare's sensitivity at very low dynamics.
